Once Saved Always Saved?

I used to believe once saved always saved. Now I believe:

Once

  • Given the righteousness of God by faith of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:22)
  • Justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24; Titus 3:7)
  • Justified by faith apart from the works of the law (Romans 3:28)
  • Having peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1)
  • Reconciled to God by the death of His Son (Romans 5:10)
  • Having received the atonement (Romans 5:11)
  • Having been baptized into Jesus Christ and buried with Him by baptism into His death (Romans 6:3–4)
  • Being risen with Him to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4)
  • Having been given God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23)
  • Having received the Spirit of adoption to call God my Father (Romans 8:15)
  • Being made an heir of God, and a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17)
  • Sanctified in Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:2)
  • Washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:11)
  • Having been baptized by the Spirit into the one body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13)
  • Being made a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • Being made the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21)
  • Being made a child of God by faith in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:26)
  • Being predestinated unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ unto Himself (Ephesians 1:5)
  • Being accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6)
  • Being redeemed through Christ’s blood (Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14)
  • Forgiven of sins according to the riches of God’s grace (Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14)
  • Sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13) unto the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30)
  • Seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6)
  • Saved by grace through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8)
  • Created in Christ Jesus unto good works (Ephesians 2:10)
  • Being made members of Christ’s body, of His flesh, and of His bones (Ephesians 5:30)
  • Having our conversation (our citizenship) in heaven (Philippians 3:20)
  • Being delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of the God’s dear Son (Colossians 1:13)
  • Being made complete in Christ (Colossians 1:10)
  • Forgiven all trespasses (Colossians 2:13)
  • Risen with Christ (Colossians 3:1)
  • Being not appointed to wrath but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:10)
  • Saved by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost (Titus 3:5)

Always saved.

I hope that helps to clear some things up for anyone wondering about the Bible doctrine of our eternal security in Christ. We could also call this doctrine the perseverance of God in the security of His saints.

If you have not believed the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, how that He died for your sins, that He was buried, and that He rose from the dead, you are not a partaker of any of this.

But you can be.

It is God’s will that all will be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth and has given you the opportunity to do so. If you will believe what God has said to you concerning His Son and accept by faith the gift of righteousness that He is offering freely to you by faith in His Son, you will be given all of the above.

Jesus Christ our Lord has fulfilled God’s part.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved (Acts 16:31).

    • DjCL—The warnings in Hebrews are not about a Christian once saved staying forever in danger of being lost. They are to Hebrews who had a longstanding history and covenant relationship with God who now are faced with a choice — to believe in Jesus, the Son of God, or to continue to disobey by rejecting Him.
